The English Premier League enters its final day in just a few hours, after Manchester City secured the title in their favor a few days ago, claiming it for the third consecutive time.
However, the most significant aspect of the final day in the Premier League is the matches involving the relegation-threatened teams, with three of them desperately trying to avoid relegation to the Championship.
What can happen on the final day?
Three teams are fighting for the 17th position, the final spot to stay in the English Premier League. Leeds United and Leicester City must win their matches to have any chance of securing this position. If they succeed, all eyes will be on Everton.
If Everton, currently in 17th place with 33 points, fails to secure 3 points against Bournemouth today, it opens the window for either Leeds or Leicester to jump out of the relegation zone.
Both Leeds and Leicester have a strong hope of gaining the three points.
Leeds will host their competitor Tottenham Hotspur, who are still vying for a European league spot, while Leicester City will host the impressive West Ham.
Therefore, the results of these three teams (Everton, Leeds, and Leicester) will either lead to glory or despair, meaning either staying in the Premier League or being relegated to the Championship, alongside Southampton, who currently occupy the 20th position in the league table and are already confirmed for relegation.
Qualification for European competitions
Meanwhile, there is also a spot in the European league that needs to be settled. Although Aston Villa currently holds that spot before the final round, both Tottenham and Brentford still have a chance to snatch it away.
Aston Villa has 58 points, followed by Tottenham with 57 points, and then Brentford with 56 points.
Aston Villa will host Brighton in their final match, and Brighton has already secured qualification for the European league due to the English FA Cup winner (either United or City) qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.
Meanwhile, Brentford, the league champion, will host Manchester City, who are concerned about the fitness of their players, especially with two important matches remaining, one in the FA Cup against Manchester United and the other in the UEFA Champions League final against Inter Milan.
On the other hand, Tottenham will visit Leeds United, who are currently in 19th place with 31 points, the same as Leicester with an equal number of points.
It is worth noting that the top four teams, Manchester City, Arsenal, Newcastle, and Manchester United, have already qualified for the UEFA Champions League.
