West Ham United has finally ended their 43-year wait for a major title by securing the Europa Conference League trophy.
Olivier Giroud scored a late goal to defeat Italian side Fiorentina in the final held in Prague.
In the dying minutes of the match, it seemed like the game was headed to extra time after Said Benrahma gave West Ham the lead with a penalty in the 62nd minute, only for Fiorentina's Giacomo Bonaventura to equalize five minutes later.
The match was intense and, at one point, turned ugly when Cristiano Biraghi, Fiorentina's captain, was hit by a plastic bottle thrown from the West Ham supporters' section.
The match was decided in the most dramatic fashion. Giroud timed his run perfectly, receiving a superb pass from Lucas Paqueta that split the Fiorentina defense.
The English player outsmarted goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano, earning the admiration of the ecstatic West Ham fans, whose numbers exceeded the allocated 5,000 tickets for them.
The goal prompted manager David Moyes to sprint down the touchline to celebrate the first major trophy of his professional career.
This means that Captain Declan Rice, in what is likely his last match with the club, emulated the club's legends Bobby Moore and Billy Bonds by leading the club to glory.
Moore led West Ham to the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1965, while Bonds guided them to the FA Cup in 1975 and 1980.
In addition to the victory, this win secured a spot for the team in the next season's European competition.
It marks the club's qualification for European football for the third consecutive year, a first in their history.
